True Compass: A Memoir [DECKLE EDGE] (Hardcover)

Senator Edward M. Kennedy's deeply moving memoir's the story of how the youngest most underrated of the nine kids born to Joseph P. Kennedy as well as Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, through great perserverence, through a long and difficult journey found real purpose carrying out the course his brothers had set.

An avid sailor, Kennedy said sailing helped him, "displace the emptiness inside me with the awareness of direction" and so it could be also said that the direction his brothers left him also helped displace the void left by their deaths. He not only picked up where they left off in politics but he took on the role of father-figure to all of their children too.

While here are hundreds of books about the Kennedys, this is the only definitive inside account from a member of the family, evoking high expectations for candor and revelation into the inner lives of this family like no other.

While this book is exquisite in its detail - a testament to Ted Kennedy's love of painting a picture, telling a story and lighting the dark with humor - it may leave you wanting for deeper introspections into the virtually relentless litany of tragedies that befell his life. Alas, this sailor didn't like to look back and peer deeply into the darkness he had escaped - even in his memoir - for fear that the darkness might overtake him and engulf him in despair. Keep moving forward, stay ahead of the storm, "I could handle this" seems to have been his mantra and code for survival.

At the heart of this autobiography is the message that through perseverance, will-power and fortitude we can overcome any shortcomings, atone for any failures and succeed in our chosen course. By sticking with it and telling himself "I can handle this" he was able to survive everything from devastating deaths and accidents, to passing both legislation and kidney stones - and he unwincingly delivered a speech through the pain of these kidney stones in much the same fashion he survived all the pain in his life - through his mantra "I can handle this," "I can handle this."

Ted Kennedy even teaches his grandson "Little Teddy," "we might not be the best," but "we can work harder than anyone." That, he tells us in his memoir, "is the greatest lesson anyone can learn"... "stick with it," through everything life hands you, follow your "true compass," "work harder than anyone" and you will eventually "get there."

A great sailor indeed.

Sailing seems a metaphor for Senator Kennedy's life, and in turn his uniquely American life seems to be a timely metaphor and lesson for how we might endure the rough waters we find America in today, and prevail.

Are You Tired Of Reading A Book. Now You Can Listen To Best Selling Books. Find Out How.....

Many of my friends regardless whether they are working or busy at house taking care of kids, they never have the time to sit down as well as read their favorite book.

Work could tire you out as well and by the time you sit down, you just want to lie on your bed and initiate dozing off.

Many of us buy a lot of books but never had the chance to complete the book and several didn't even have the chance to take the book out from the bag even!

Below are a little of of the specific advantages that audio books have over normal hardcover or paperback books:

1. Audio books are more cost effective to produce than hardcover and paperbacks. More so, those who love to conserve nature insist that if completely books are audio instead of hardcover and paperbacks, this'll save more trees and keep the earth better than it is today.

2. You can select the exact track you want to listen to instead of flipping through several pages in the case of normal books. This saves a great deal of time and makes it very well-fixed for you.

3. You can listen to audio books while doing other things in the house, while commuting to and from work or even while jogging. With an audio book someone else does the reading, while you do the absorption.

4. You can listen to an audio book when its dark (example - when you are out camping and you've got no lights) but you can't read a book when it's dark. So, with an audio book you can go on vacation and still enjoy what the audio book has to offer.

5. You can save the time you spend reading to your kids every night before they sleep with an audio book. Unlike a normal paperback or hardcover book that you have to read to your kids, with an audio book you can simply play it for them until they fall asleep, thereby saving you the time.

6. More so, audio books that are specifically for children are more fun than your reading can be. You probably were not trained to talk like a rabbit, right? But most of the narrators of children's audio books were trained to read in ways that children love.

With the incredible advantage of listening to your favorite book instead of reading it, the popularity of audio books has now gone through the roof. There are now more and more book titles with audio book versions. Audio books is becoming a lucrative retail for many working professionals, students and parents.

Think about it - with audio books you can now save that extra time you spend reading a chapter on your favorite motivational book each morning before you leave for work. Apart from saving extra time, you are gaining extra knowledge in the process.

You can simply put it on to play while you prepare for work or even play it in your car on your way to work.

No wonder children, adults and even oldies have fallen head over heels in love with audio books.

The Benefits Of Buying Books From Wholesale Book Sellers...

Wholesale book sellers buy large lots of both new and used books in bulk for redistribution, and sell them to other businesses as well as to individuals. Books are held in and shipped from warehouses when shipments are ordered, and they are sent directly to that company, other wholesaler, or individual's address. Large lots are broken down into smaller lots to be sold to other wholesalers, and new and used books are redistributed without altering their contents to sell through their own stores. This process saves companies thousands of dollars compared to the purchase of books directly from the publisher. Many wholesalers have websites with long lists of titles and authors of both favorite books and rare books in both new and used condition.

When books are purchased through wholesale book sellers, they can redistribute them at discounted prices. Individual customers purchasing publications from wholesale book sellers benefit by saving hundreds of dollars on what they buy in comparison to the purchase of books through average book sellers. These savings are also passed on to businesses and other wholesalers! When books are purchased in large quantities directly from publishers, they are usually not discounted and do not have bulk prices for the average book seller. Average book sellers must purchase books at cost, and need to mark up the price of their books to make a sufficient profit; an unfortunate situation for the customer. Companies and businesses can save thousands of dollars purchasing smaller lots from wholesalers instead of directly through the publishers.

Thousands of titles are carried through wholesale booksellers, and they record their titles by category. Some of these popular book categories include: Children's Books, Comics/ Graphic Novels, Crime/ Thriller/ Mystery, Horror, Fiction, Biography and more. You can also find rare, antique and collectible books, audio cassettes and CDs, art, photography and architecture categories as well. If you're searching for specific titles, authors or ISBN numbers, you can type in the information you are looking for and click search to find your book or author. This's an excellent way for college students to find specific editions of textbooks and books required for dissertation research, as these kinds of searches require a large database of books to choose from. The cost of the books works well with college student budgets. Many wholesale book sellers have satisfaction guarantees to cover any damaged products. They have their own policies on returns and exchanges, and you can find customer service is just a click away.
Shipping costs vary and include taxes and handling charges. Most wholesale booksellers will give you the option for priority shipping or overnight for additional charges. Choose a wholesale bookseller for your next book buy and test them out, customer service is very important and they will do their best to assure that you are satisfied with your purchase. It is also possible to add promotional codes or customer codes to definite purchases for additional discounts. Keep your eyes peeled for specials and sales around the holidays.

What is the best website to buy books online?

Amazon.com

find out on yahoo search..

half.com

http://www.daedalusbooks.com

Bargain books, and a pretty great selection, too.

You can get excellent package deals on ebay. I once got 5 books for $2. Its hard to beat that.

www.thebestwebsitetobuybooksonline.com

It depends on how far ahead you are ordering. If you order way in advance, you can do a search for the cheapest seller like at mysimon.com. Lately I have been ordering at www.bn.com (Barnes and Noble) since they have their "fast and free" shipping. If you buy at least $25 worth of books you get free 3 day shipping.

well. depends. for random books, craigslist.

for good bestsellers stick to borders or something

<h1 class="subject">Where is the best place on the web to buy text books?</h1>

Im in school and looking for a competetive choice for my books online? any suggestions?

www.bestwebbuys.com

it will search for the best price on lots of sites including everything that has been mentioned, it will also tell you which is cheapest taking into account shipping and membership costs. It will also search new and used and let you choose.

It used to be just books, now you can search for more.

I always used it in college. I average a hundred dollars on books for the entire semester.

You might check with the professor to see if edition matters. For most classes it does not and you can save a lot of money.

Online at the college or university you are attending. The used books are cheaper, but make sure you are buying the current edition used by the professor for your class. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070414122830AAcdLyE&kid=EbIpJUnHFTA2MCvxlDU7&s=comm&date=2007-04-14+18%3A55%3A33&.crumb=

Amazon.com or half.com. The company I order from goes through the school and they charge an arm and a leg so usually we get them through these two sites, but make sure they are the right editions. There have been many people that order the wrong edition and have to waste money sending them back and forth. Also, there may be a book-exchange program at your school where you can exchange with other students. If not a program, just ask.

one really good place to buy text books off of the Internet is amazon.com because they are not that expensive especially if they are used. If you go to barns and nobles.com, they would be way more expensive.

half.com

www.bigwords.com

www.amazon.com

Also try Powells.com. Try all and see which gives you the best price for a certain textbook.

Campusi.com is a really good site. Amazon.com is good too.

Join site STUMBLEUPON.

My system

1) find the book on amazon.

2) copy the ISBN

3) search on http://www.bestwebbuys.com

That site also has online store coupons ("Hot Deals") on the main page.

I hope this helps.

Jim, http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com

I've bought from Powell's Books a number of times. They sell used and new books. They even offer free shipping for orders over $50.

http://www.tatteredcover.com/NASApp/store/IndexJsp

I've been ordering books from Tattered Cover for over 25 years and am still very happy with them. They even ship books and bill you for them afterward. Never had a single problem with them and if you need individual help with items you can talk to an actual person in the store to get it.

<h1 class="subject">Where is the best place to buy books?</h1>

I am familiar with ebay and amazon but they dont have the books i want.Which are The rats trilogy by James herbert. The problem is i want them on hardback!

Waterstones is a good book shop, they may have it in already, if not will be able to get it for you. You could even try WH Smith, and be surprised how many they got in the bigger stores.

Abebooks.com has used books but in many different conditions, many of their books are in excellent condition and you can search for your title in only ' hardcover'

Also, Powelsbooks.com and Alibris.

And just for the future, if you ever want to buy new books for an EXTREMELY cheap price, go to Overstock.com and find their book section. They have ALL of the books Amazon.com has but but 40-50% off. All of them are brand new books, but much cheaper. Plus their shipping is always 2.95 no matter what.

ExLibris, Powells. The books are kind of old, so you're just going to have to cross your fingers a bit.

ETA: So sorry. I got it wrong. I mean ALibris. The other poster is correct.

Amazon online site is the greatest place for shopping and buy also they will deliver your order as soon as possible

I like Waterstones, I find them very good.

<h1 class="subject">Where is the best bookstore to buy law books in San Francisco?</h1>

Hi everybody,

I'm looking for a bookstore in San Francisco where I could find law books. I've tried to find it on internet but I failed. Thanks for your answers.

Collegiate Books & Cafe. It's near Sunset Dr. and it has a whole wall of law books!!!

Thank you for your answer "lovely" but could you be a little bit more precise about this bookstore because I didn't found it on internet? Do you know the address?

Thank you for your answer http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20081201180258AA3uOPk&kid=DLxGOjLrFjBKZYABKP7Q&s=comm&date=2008-12-10+20%3A12%3A15&.crumb=

Since a lot of people take law classes in and around San Francisco, go to craigslist and search for your books in the San Francisco section.

Try the bookshops in the universities and colleges...I would recommend UC Berkeley

<h1 class="subject">Would it be best to wait a few days to buy ur books?</h1>

i am wondering when i should buy my books for college. my dad says asap bc they may run out. but some ppl say to wait till u go to that class first to see if they need it so u save money that way but ur being risky. wat would u do?

I think it’s best to buy your books before classes start. For one, if you’re late, there may not be any more used books available, and you’ll have to go with the MUCH more expensive new books. Second, you may not be able to tell within only the first few days if you’ll need the book or not. As I discovered, many professors will give tests on both the lecture portion of class as well as information from the assigned book that you will not cover in class. The first test may not be until several weeks in, and, depending on what school you’re going to, the books for sale may be put away already by that time. Also, yes, there is a possibility of the book needed for the class running out of copies. Sometimes, they may order just enough or a few more than needed for those who are registered for the class. But, inevitably, there are those will have to add classes after the semester has already started, and may snatch up a copy of the book before the late buyers.

this can go both ways.

used copies of the book (aka the cheaper books) are usually the first to go. so if you wait too long, you might be forced to buy books that are all new which is a complete rip off.

but sometimes people wait because they get to class and their teacher informs them that they don't need certain books or that certain books on the list aren't required.

overall and from experience, i think it's safe to get them ahead of time so you can get the used copies and hey, if your teacher says you don't need the book you can typically always return it. i know where i went to school you had 2 weeks after the 1st day of classes to return any books and get a full refund.

If you go there as soon as you can then there can be Used books that sell at a discount. If you wait then you have to pay full price. I don't know what school you went to before but in college you actually have to study your books because you are competing against other intelligent people and not the dummies you went to high school with who didn't know a coup from a coupe.

I always wait until I go to class first. There are some classes where you won't need your books right away, that will give you more time to order the books online for a much cheaper price, and some books might be optional, not required.

Looking at your grammar and your (ur) spelling, I hope one of the books you are buying will be an English book.

True and False by David Mamet

This is a fairly new book by one of America's best playwrights and directors. He cuts right to the chase and tells you like it is. He's not a big fan of Stanislavsky's, who can get pretty intense at times for younger actors. Check it out.

The outsiders

by S.E Hinton

...in Your case may be it is "Hamlet" by Shakespeare ....

The Prince of Denmark tells so many things about acting and dancing, so that's more than "only" a drama by W. Shakespeare, it is also about acting ... in the right way ... and I like the sense of humor in that "drama" ...

I'll bet the school library has acting books for the young. Have them check some out and look them over, then order a copy of the one that seems best suited.

Try typing in your Address bar: The Arts.com, or The Arts/Teaching.com, anything todo with acting & novels, just use your imagination, about how that could be found.. Try, http:// acting/performing/arts/novels.com, anything!! Good-Luck, hun. Wish I could be of more assistance, (help)sorry...

<h1 class="subject">Where is the best place to buy books at reasonable prices? Not online, though.?</h1>

Besides Barnes&Nobles, I can't seem to find it even with directions. Vromans sell them at higher prices. I want to buy them with prices around how Costco and Walmart sells them, around $12-$13, but I can't find the book I want there (Eclipse) So i was wondering, where is a good place to buy books?

By the way, not Borders also, because they sell it at high prices.

If you can give me a few stores, more than one, that would be really great.

Thanks

You could actually check at your local library...Sometimes, they have tremendous sales of paperbacks and hardbacks..Or you could see if you have a used book store..Some of them actually give you credit to buy more books if you bring the original books back, or bring more books to trade for a 20% credit on the cover price..

Used bookstores. Or outlet bookstores. You can get it way cheaper online, though. But places like Target and K-mart would probably have it for that too. Why not get it at one of the places you mentioned, though? That's probably the best price.

Look into local thrift stores, like Goodwill/Salvation Army. Check out any secondhand book stores or Half-Price Books.

Using the public library is a great option and then if you read a book and just really want your own copy then look around for a sale or the ideas above. Plus you can always request these books for Bday or Christmas/Holiday gifts.

I would try looking at Target if you haven't already. Sam's Club would have it cheap if the have it in stock. Good Luck!

Try to find a local used book store, u can get books for as cheap as 50 cents at least at the one by me

<h1 class="subject">What are the best books to buy to review for the SAT's test?</h1>

I've heard about Princeton Review and Barrons 2400, how are these? and what other books should I look into buying.. What books helped you the most?

THANK YOU!

The Barrons 2400 is a extremely high level book and if you are just starting out I would not suggest you buying it. The Princeton Review is a good buy for your money since it has the practice tests and some tips on how to work out the SAT type questions.

But besides those two books this is what I suggest:

Here are some pointers to improve your score:

There are alot of SAT Prep books out there for example the College board SAT Prep book (the best one in my opinion, since it is made by the testmakers), and the Kaplan one is a close 2nd. The Collegeboard SAT Prep book is excellent because it gives you alot of tips and tricks on how to crack the SAT and it ahs alot of practice questions and actual previous SAT tests from the test makers. Also once you finish the practice test you can go online and put in your answers and see your actual score. Which helps alot! Trust me.

Your second option is to take a SAT prep course in your area. (That is if you cant study from a book). The SAT prep courses that I recommend (which are common everywere in the US) is the Kaplan course, and the TestMasters course.

They are a bit expensive but will give you the information you need to succeed on the SAT.

And the last and final option (if the book does not work and if you cannot take the course) there is a online website (which is totally free) called www.studybeans.com

It helps you with practice problems, vocab words, and almost everything on the SAT.

Good Luck on your next SAT! and hope this helps!

The Official SAT Study Guide is made by College Board themselves and it's really helpful and comprehensive. I also really like the Princeton Review books; they make corny jokes and make studying a bit less painful.

I used two books:

1.Barron's

2.The Official SAT guide.

Why I recommend them:

1.The Official book gives you real practise, just like it's on the real SAT.

2.The Barron's book is tough and prepares you really well for the test by covering a lot of topics.

I would look for the College Board book produced for the sats .....also i took a prinston review class where we went through the whole book and that was very helpful.....many great studie skills and stragedies for taking the test

I'm always pushing kaplan because after using every book, I felt it was the closest to the actual test. Also, they have a 12 practice tests book that will definitely be worth studying and paying for. Princeton Review is my second choice, but actually I never push for Barron's. It made the test harder than the actual one for me and it was more trouble than needed. I also took Kaplan private tutoring classes and he rose my score 300 points. It's pricey but worth it. I also took Princeton Review courses and they didn't help me at all. But this of course depends on your strong and weak points.

Good luck.

<h1 class="subject">Where is the best (aka cheapest) place to buy books online...?</h1>

Where is the best (aka cheapest) place to buy books online... not textbooks though.

Depends on the book! Amazon has a lot of seller of used books, http://www.abebooks.com is a consortium of booksellers with used books, and then there's

http://www.paperbackswap.com

http://www.bookmooch.com

Can you give us more details?

I like Abebooks.com but if you have Firefox as your browser, there's an add on feature that appears whenever you go to any book site. It opens up a list of places that have the book(s) you're looking for at the cheapest prices.

ebay for sure, that is where i get old books that i need for school and they are only $.99 and most have never been opened up, it is like someone found them in a box and decided to sell them just to free up space.

Try half.com as well.

Books Price is a great comparison website for many different booksellers.

Check here:

You can find it.

Good luck!

Either Dover or Abebooks .

:0)

ebay. sometimes you can get em for $.99 if you play your cards right :)

ebay

amazon

sometimes barnes and noble have books for $5 online.

I usually get my books from Ebay. If not there, Amazon. Or Walmart.

Amazon is alright but they tend to overcharge for shipping, I personally recommend half.com.

<h1 class="subject">What is the best site to buy books for COLLEGE??</h1>

Im going back to school in a few weeks, been out of school for 4 years. I was wondering how YOU save money on books, or is there a good site to get your books cheap besides the college book store.

I have some websites.

www.half.com

www.bookfinder.com

edited to add:

www.addall.com

www.allbookstores.com

I think amazon.com marketplace sellers are a good place to start. that's where I go. Also, ebay and half.com are good options.

hope it helps!

Half.com, be sure to visit your college book store first, as each instructor will have exactly what textbooks are required, as editions do change. Simply present the schedule of courses example Intro to Psychology 101, they will print off what you need. Go home and check the prices on half.com versus the college bookstore.

The best place is on Ebay, you can usually get a bargain trust me I have used it before for University text books. It is great

Where can I find popular contemporary fiction in audio book format that doesn't cost the earth?

<h1 class="subject">What is the best website to buy used school books for cheap?</h1>

I need an english and history book. Please let me know the best websites to buy some used school books. For High school JR. Thanks

I find that amazon is surprisingly cheap when it comes to buying used textbooks. All you have to do is type in the information on the book and then choose the option t buy it used. When you buy it off their site used, you are directly buying it from the seller. A lot of people try to compete with prices so you find that this makes the books alot cheaper.

www.half.com

www.amazon.com

Amazon is pretty good they sell new and used books.

Try http://www.bigwords.com, this is where I sold and bought books.

I'm looking for The Divine Comedy, illustrated edition, but I can't seem to find a website (Amazon, BetterWorldBooks) that explicitly states the "illustrated" adjective. How do I know, or which site offers the most complete information on books to buy and the best prices?

I found it at directtextbook.com.

Without a doubt Chapters-indigo.ca has a wide selection at very competitive prices. They have the most selection, but not sure if they have second hand...good luck. I usually just go to the store, but they're online selection is more convenient

<h1 class="subject">Where is the best place in tokyo to buy craft books and fabric?</h1>

I'm going to Japan in a couple of weeks and i want to buy fabric and craft books (specifically knitting and sewing) while i'm there. Can you recomend an area of Tokyo, or even a specific store?

Fabric:

Yuzawaya (locations in Tokyo: Kamata ,Kichijoji and so on )

http://www.sakura-house.com/english/premise/kamata/yuzawaya.htm

Kinkado (location : 5 to 10min walk from JR Ikebukuro station)

http://flickr.com/photos/movinghands/391892617/

http://www.rakuten.co.jp/kinkado/

Craft books:

I guess some craft books will be available at the fabric department stores, however, more such books might be found at large book stores such as Kinokuniya book stores, Junku-do book stores in Shinjuku, (as just example of very large book stores in Tokyo)

Yuzawaya is one of the place you should go.

http://www.yuzawaya.co.jp/company/brochure3.html

I think Tokyu Hands is good, especially Shinjyuku branch is bigger than other branches.

Tokyu Hands

http://www.tokyu-hands.co.jp/index.htm

I would definitely check Yuzawa, and Tokyu Hands in Shibuya is awesome for craft things! As for the books... do you want them in Japanese or English? English books are harder to find, you'll have to go to Quest or Kinokuniya.

<h1 class="subject">What is the best/reasonably inexpensive way to buy chess books ?</h1>

I have been playing chess for about a year. My coach has recommended close to 10 books. There are also a bunch of nice-to-have books and DVDs and the costs build up pretty quickly. I don't want to buy all used.

Any good sites ?

Hi David,

That's tough. You could spend hours trying to find the best price for everything you want to buy. It's likely that one merchant will have some titles for cheap and the rest of the titles will be expensive. Another merchant might be the same, or overlap with the first. Merchants frequently lower prices on some items "loss leaders" to attract business. But they realize you often want more than one thing - and they'll get you to pay rack rate for items 2+. There's one website I know of that can do all of that tedious homework across dozens of sites for you and truly get you the best deal. Check out a list of some of my favorite chess books - and you can see for yourself that Ugenie simplifies the equation. BTW, you only spend a few $ more buying new vs. used in this case.

http://www.ugenie.com/displayBundle.jsp?bundleId=27357&src=shoppingList

go on eBay and search for "chess book lot".

That will give you a bunch of items where each item is a set of chess books (known as a "lot").

Find the lot that has the most matches from your coach's list. You should be able to buy the lot for less than $5/book.

Then, go to an online chess book retailer or Amazon to fill in what you didn't get as part of the lot.

amazon.com used books is a great way to buy them. a number of these books are actually new or practically new but at used book prices.

You could get some from the library, or a used book store, amzon.com, or ebay

All these places have very nice books and are in good shape.

:)

well you don;t even have to buy a book online you cab read about it and not buy an ounce of material you can copy and past thee info on your computer and use it when you get stuck

<h1 class="subject">Where is the best place to buy audio books online?</h1>

My commute is very long and audio books are a great way to pass time by. Where is the best place to buy audio books online?

I've been listening to audio books for a long time and i think your best option is:

http://www.audiobooks.net/lp/abnet-lp.html

They've got a great catalog and great prices!

Check with your local library. Most now offer audio books and some even offer audiobook downloads. It is then just a simple matter of ripping it to your computer and uploading to a mp3 player or burning it to an mp3 music disc.

If you have an ipod the easiest way to do this is rent the audio book from the library then download it on to your computer. make sure to join the tracks on the top where it says "advanced" I hope I helped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Let me google that for you, bro.

These are the only websites I know right now. I was wondering which of these is the best one to buy cheap (but reliable) books from?

And do you think that I should buy it from here or just buy my books at my school? But I know people who buy it on these websites, because they say it saves them more money.

Thank you!

Amazon is a very reliable source and you can find cheap books that are in good condition. I always buy my books from Amazon and they haven't let me down yet.

I've been buying from Amazon for 10+ years, and never regretted it. I once bought a TV from them, and it was defective... they made it right, and I didn't have to pay shipping to send it back, or for the Replacement.

Also, if you're an avid reader, but can't stand the clutter of BOOKS, look at the Amazon Kindle. Its the only electronic reader put out by an actual book retailer, and has more titles available for it than any other reader on the market. It also features a cell-phone-type data link that allows you to buy more e-books wirelessly.

There is also an Amazon Visa card. Every time you spend 2,500 dollars anywhere Visa is accepted, they send you a $25 gift certificate.

Better World Books collects and sells books online to fund literacy initiatives worldwide. With more than two million new and used titles in stock, we’re a self-sustaining, triple-bottom-line company that creates social, economic and environmental value for all our stakeholders.

Amazon have a good reputation, they always get it right for me.

Except once, when I asked for Princess Diaries book 4 and they gave me the wrong cover. Because I hate mismatched covers in a series. But that's just me.

They have free shipping from the UK website.

<h1 class="subject">Where is the best place to buy new books?</h1>

We have a Books-A-Million, WalMart, and Barnes and Noble. Which is the best place to buy books?

I am not sure what Books-A-Million is... so I can't really tell you my opinion on that one.

My problem with WalMart is that they only sell the NY Times Best Sellers... so, if you want an older book, you're out of luck. But when you do want a Best Seller, WalMart has them for $7.88.

I personally always buy mine from Barnes and Noble. They're the cheapest out of the four or five book stores we have here. [If you have Borders there, stay away... sooooo expensive.] And they have a pretty nice selection. Oh! And Starbuck's is nice, too.

Good luck :]

I personally LOVE Barnes And Noble. A lot of times they have books that Schulers and Borders doesn't.

Amazon.com is good sometimes, but sometimes they'll mark your books with a black sharpie which really annoys me sometimes.

Borders is really expensive, but if you go there when they have a sale it will be so cheap. They go lower than anyone else when they're on sale. So they're worth checking, but before you buy anything there you should make sure you can't get it anywhere else.

I don't know what Books-A-Million is

WalMart (like someone else said) only sells the current NYTimes list. I usually avoid that because some of the best books are usually the ones nobody knows about. And lots of times the books on the list are inane drivel. =]

I would definately say books - a- million then barnes and noble the best book selection you are going to find at walmart are magazines, bibles and little kid books

hope this helped. You are probably going to have a better selection at books- a-million and they tend to be cheaper than barnes and noble

I don't know... I live in Canada and use Indigo...

That being said I'd go for Barnes and Noble because I recognize the name from Podcasts I listen too.

barns and noble

and the internet

Barnes and Noble

Amazon.com

barns and noble defiantly they have a ton of books

Barnes & Noble. But check online first.

<h1 class="subject">Where is the best place to buy used books online?</h1>

I already buy books from ebay. Are there any other places online to buy mint condition used books?

The very best place if http://www.abe.com

ABE is a network of bookshops in the UK, USA and Canada. They offer new, used, remaindered, out-of-print, antiques and more. You can find textbooks, first editions, signed copies, etc. The customer service is outstanding.

These are the small booksellers that Amazon and Barnes and Noble are running out of business. Support the booksellers of ABE when you can.

http://www.amazon.com

I think amazon is the best, this is the link:

http://amazon.imam4u.com/?a=83&c=used+book

-smn-

at

http://astore.amazon.com/blogger004-20?%5Fencoding=UTF8&node=61

http://www.addall.com

This is a metasite that includes amazon, ABE, Alibris, and a whole bunch more. My advice is to stay away from Ebay, and use only dealers that adhere strictly to ABAA grading standards!

Magician: Master by Raymond Feist – Book Review.....

This book is the second book in Feist’s Riftwar Saga (the first book is Magician: Apprentice) and in this book we see not only the transformation of our main character from apprentice to master but we also see this same transformation in Feist’s writing. The tone, texture, and richness of this novel is significantly different than the first book. In this book Feist builds us a big world and takes us for a grand adventure. He opens up two worlds for us and introduces us to a lot of new characters and a very big story. In this volume Feist also goes from Apprentice to Master.

There are four books in this series. The first is Magician: Apprentice, the second is Magician: Master, the third is Silverthorn and the final book is A Darkness at Sethanon. This is the current version but there is an earlier version that combines the first two volumes and it is simply entitled: Magician. This single version of the first two novels is uncommon. As Feist’s writing gained in popularity the publishers split up that first book into two volumes and reprinted them.

The Basic Premise of the series

The plotline of the series of books is that a rift is opened up between two worlds and through this rift people and things can pass. A warrior empire is using this rift to conquer the world of our main characters which is called Midkemia and the main characters are Pug (a magician in training) and Tomas (an aspiring warrior). The setting is very much high medieval period with kings, castles, dwarves, elves, magicians, and much of the expected epic fantasy fare.

This second book begins about four years after the second book and one of the unique things about it is that we spend a fair amount of time on the other world which is named Kelewan. That world too is also very much high medieval Europe but of course with its own customs and idiosyncrasies. One thing of note is that horses are totally alien to their world which creates some nice side developments in the story.

I approached this shifting to the other world with some trepidation because, after all, they are the bad guys and I don’t really want to get to know them! But, it works extremely well and this shifting gives us some really good (and necessary) developments in the story.

Overall perception and analysis

This book is substantially different than the first one. We go from a pretty straight-forward epic fantasy theme to something that is significantly more textured and rich. It feels like there might have been four years of Feist’s writing skill development between the first and second book. The first book was more about introducing us to the characters and the story and this second book takes a bigger and more ambitious look by introducing us to the two worlds involved. It’s ambitious and it works well. There are some outstanding dramatic scenes and events that really leave an impression.

A Mild Criticism

This book deals with two worlds. And each world is complete with its own politics, empires, barons, blood lines, warlords, and all the requisite political maneuverings for power and wealth. This political infighting means that it gets a bit complex at times. A lot of different characters are introduced and sometimes this gets to be a bit too complicated for my taste.

Conclusion

Something really great about this book is that it and the first magician book can be read as a satisfying single work without having to continue through more books in the series. This book brings about a conclusion to the story begun in book one. And, one of the things that I like best about this book is that once we come to our dramatic conclusion we don’t find our characters sitting under a tree and living happily ever after. There is another forty or so pages that draw us further into some interesting developments which of course draw us into the next novel.

If you are looking for a new world to explore and a new series to sink your teeth into the Riftwar books are an excellent choice. There are currently over twenty books that take place in the Riftwar series and the latest book was released in early 2008 (Wrath of a Mad God). And a new series begins with the release of Rides a Dread Legion in early 2009.....

Children's laureates reveal their top children's books

Children's laureates in the UK have listed their favourite children's books of all time, as part of the tenth anniversary celebrations of the children's laureate post.

Quentin Blake, Anne Fine, Michael Morpurgo, Jacqueline Wilson and the current laureate Michael Rosen generally favoured classics over more recent works, with just five of the 35 books on the entire record having been published in the last 20 years.

Two authors appeared twice on the list: E Nesbit, for The Railway Children and Five Children and It, and Robert Louis Stevenson, for Treasure Island and A Child's Garden of Verses.

Other books named by the children's laureates included Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers, The Box of Delights by John Masefield and Just William by Richmal Crompton.

The next children's laureate will be named on 9 June 2009. Children's laureates hold the post for a two-year term.

Eat the Book Writing Elephant One Bite at a Time

Have you started your book yet? No. Don't beat yourself up any longer. Keep reading this article; it was written especially for you. With the right focus and knowledge, you able to successfully takeoff and complete YOUR book within weeks.

Remember the old adage, Q: How do you eat an elephant? A: One bite at a time. The same applies to writing your book. How do you eat the book writing elephant? You eat him one bite (one step) at a time. More and more people are successfully completing their books in less time. Even your competitors are getting it done. Why not join them.

Here's a little of tips to get started writing your book:

1. Plan a significant book.

Many aspiring authors tremble in their tracks; they wonder if their book'll sell. Good question. No one wants to invest time or money into a sinking ship. Don't be afraid; test your book's significance. Your book is significant if it presents useful information, answers important reader questions, and impacts people for the good. If it's entertaining or humorous it could go further than you imagined.

It's significant, if it creates a deeper understanding of humanity, animals or this world. With one to three of these elements your book is worth writing. More than three, it has potential of producing great sales even to best seller status. Go ahead, write your book and make the world a better place.

2. Know who will purchase your book.

When you give your book a target audience, it will hit the mark of good sales. Top selling books focus on one main topic per book. When you target one audience at a time, each tip, each story or how-to will be more effective. Aim your message and you gain a competitive edge on many book writers.

Create an audience profile. Are your potential readers male or female? How old are they? Are they interested in self-help, mystery, romance, how-to books? What problems do they face? Are they business people or professionals? Are they techies or non-techies? Are they willing to spend $12-25 on a book like yours?

3. Write your book's thesis.

Did you cringe at the word thesis? For some, it brought back memories of English class and writing essays. No worries, a thesis simply reflects the main central thought of the book. Make sure the main central thought includes the greatest benefit of your book and you're done.

In other words, it should answer your audiences' question, "How will this book help, encourage or solve my problem for me?" Writing the thesis before you write the book will keep you on the path of focused, potent yet easy to read content.

All chapters support your book's main concept. For "Win with the Writer Inside," the thesis is "How to write, complete, and publish your best book fast." The best titles often include the thesis statement in some form.

4. Create your book's first title.

In the literary world it's called a working title because everyone knows it could and probably will change. You might decide to modify it or your publisher. Even so, working titles help direct and focus your writing.

Some non-fiction writing does better with subtitles. If needed, it clarifies the title. Confusing titles will miss the mark and sales. Which titles grab you and stir a desire to read what the author has to say: Rich Dad, Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money - That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! or How to Teach Others About Money; How to Win Friends and Influence People! or How to Make Friends.

5. Make an inspiration cover early.

Keep it by your desk to inspire you. Book covers are the number one selling point of a book. Of course, in the beginning this is exclusively a working cover. Nevertheless it will help crystallize your thoughts and propel you toward the fulfillment of your dream. Remember, you have about 4-10 seconds to impress your audience to buy.

Browse the bookstores and the net to get a few ideas. Study the covers best suited for your audience. Choose colors that attract them. Consider blue and red for business books; aqua, yellow, and shades of red work for personal growth books. Avoid using much red; it makes many feel suspicious.

I admit it; getting started writing a book could become a huge elephant in the way of your book's success. Even so, it doesn't have to stay that way. You could do like the author did; eat the book writing elephant one bite at a time. Start today; complete and release your significant message to the world. Bon Appetit!

How is the best way to store old books?

I have four old first edition books from 1920's (winnie the pooh), I want to put them away for my 13 year old daughter till she is old enough to appreciate them, how is the best way to store them?

Wrap them in brown paper and store them in a dark and very dry cupboard is the best way. It's important that you keep them out of the sun.

I went on a course by an antiquarian book dealer and he said a thick layer of dust was the best way to protect old books.

Air tight container.

A dry, dust free, dark place.

in Greece-prof paper (to keep moisture away from it) in a cabinet with a key and put the key in a safe place so she can see them, but can't touch them.

Get a large toy box and put them all in there and then keep the toy box in the attic, if possible. Iv done this. Nothing can happen to the books and it keeps them out of the way.

Maybe youshould ask in libarian maybe in a plastic boxs for storaging and wrap it up with cloting

The best way to store books is to keep them in a dark place (direct sunlight will fade them) and a cool environment as dry heat could set fire to paper. I suggest a plastic box of dark colour in the loft in a less traffic place. Otherwise in a book case that is not in direct sunlihgt and remember to dust them quite often.

What is the best ipod to play audio books in the car?

I'm looking for an ipod to play audio books on the way to work, which is the best one and does it plug into the car somewhere?

Any ipod will play audiobooks. However, the shuffles don't show you what you are choosing to play, so I wouldn't recommend those. For plugging into a car, there are several ways to go:

A charger that goes into the cig lighter. $20

A transmitter that uses an FM channel - $20

A converter that uses a cassette in the cassette player $10

A combined charger/transmitter. $50

wider screen, better view

apple

big screen

You can play audio books on any ipod. They are totally portable, and if you don't want headphones you can buy a device that plays it out loud. You can get anything from a shuffle to the new video nano, depending on your budget and how much use you will get out of it.

they all play to the same quality, im not sure how large of file an audiobook is but that is the thing that you would consider, i own a 30 gig ipod and have used about 10% of it with all of my music.

To listen in a car, you need to buy either an fm transmitter or a tape deck converter

What's the best place to find good children's books?

I'm looking for books to starting off teaching my 3yr old and 5yr old to read...and I'm shopping online, so any good ideas? like what type of books are the best or helped for your kids?

Depends on what you want to teach your children. If you're talking cultural, you'd want a merchandising mag from that country. If you're talking general (English, numbers, etc.) then you can check out Amazon, Borders, Barnes & Nobles, etc.

A more fun and money saving way would be to join up at a local library, that way you can change the childrens books so its not always the same and it doesnt cost you what it would to buy books your children will never read again when they are bigger. Also you can change the books to grow with your childrens knowledge...

Good Luck!!

I've written a few pages about my own kids' favorite books. They're all really common and you can find them anywhere. I mainly focus on more "fun" books that actually teaching books. For teaching reading skills I recommend the BOB books. They're only about $12 for a set and my kids really enjoyed them - once you know what you want, Amazon is the easiest (because you don't have to go through the whole shopping extravaganza with kiddos in tow) and I think they still have a buy 3/get the 4th free promo going on now with most of their books and you save on gas by getting free shipping over $25. I live in the boonies, so online shopping is my friend.

As a former teacher, I highly recommend Usborne Books. They are a publishing company based in London that have fantastic selections that are both challenging and engaging to young readers.

I have bought quite a few because my almost 2 year old reads them over and over again. Usborne has books for readers up to teens, so there would be something for your children as well.

Some specialty children's stores carry them. Borders carries some of them. I would check to see if there is a seller in your area (they do parties kind of like Pampered Chef).

www.ubah.com

bn.com

if you click on a book and then look to the right, sometimes they have discounted used books that you can buy for a cheaper price then buying it straight out brand new. I buy $20 books for $3 a lot of times, it can add up in savings!

Also, because books are pricey, I have found going to a used book store can save a bundle! Plus they basically look brand new!

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/index.asp?r=1&afsrc=1

Dr. Seuss books are great for kids learning to read. Reading to kids even before they start learning to read is also beneficial.

Barnes and Noble is awesome! I really like these books, and a lot of times you can find "bargain" books.

Your local library.

I buy a lot of my books from TJMaxx, Marshalls and Berlington Coat factory. They are so cheap and in great condition, new.

chapters/indigo has everything! (in stores and online)

What are the best ways to study college text books?

What are the best ways to study college text books effectively? The chapters in my college text books are long and detailed and take a lot of time to just read word for word. Can any of you recommend some good strategies to extract the most important information from the texts without actually reading all the chapters word for word?

You should take notes down while you read. Then add stuff in from after you've finished and even put some pictures down if you need to. Class notes are always good to use to.Also, this always works for me, make glossary cards. Write down a word on a piece of paper of a card (make the size around 12cm by 8cm, or 5 inches by 3 inches) then write its definition on the back. There easy to carry around and a great way to revise during spare time or before class.

Most importantly, don't try cramming facts and what you've just read. Take it slow, read it, re-read it and sort of memorise it. It's much more affective.

:)

Sometimes they have online summaries (look up your publisher), and there's always spark notes ;) ;)

Speed reading. You skim the chapters and take notes while you read. Then when you are done, you go over the notes and anything you didn't understand look it up on the good old internet and you can go from there.

At the end of the chapters in most books, there is a section that gives an overview of the important points that were covered. I would also look at the headings of the paragraphs/sections to see what key phrases you should be looking for.

I hope this helps, good luck!

Take notes in class. I found once I wrote it down, I never forgot it. Besides, most professors only lecture on the important points, so the stuff they don't intend to quiz you on, they omit. I found as an architecture student, it wasn't all that important to memorize every little thing because I always kept reference books nearby. Maybe it would be different if I was a doctor though.

What are the best real estate books to begin with for self-education?

I'm looking to change careers into real estate, and have a personal interest in beginning a portfolio of investment properties. What are the best books out there dealing with real estate finance, buying foreclosures, renting properties, flipping, and understanding the general market? Also, what newspapers/magazines do you recommend?

There are some good books out there but generally they give you either the view from 30,000 feet or they is an agenda that is not grounded in reality. The best thing to do is to get specific about what you want to do in investments: residential, multifamily, retail, office, ground leases, part of a TIC, an investment team, or single source investment. Then know your market where you want to invest. Get to know everyone that can effect or support your investment area: city planners, neighborhood associations, etc. There are loads of things you should do but first you need to get specific about what you want to do.

I am not really sure on what is all out there today but when I started I bought the Carlton sheets (I hope I spelled it right). This information gave me all of the tools for real estate investing. I did purchase a 3300 sq ft home and a business with only 300 dollars in my pocket. My wife and I now have a six figure income and will be absolutely debt free in 28 more months.

One of the first books my husband's broker gave him was The Millionaire Real Estate Agent By Gary Keller, Dave Jenks, Jay Papasan.

If you take your test and pay your dues to the National Association of Realtors, you’ll receive Realtor magazine and have access to their on line articles.

There are soooo many.

For a good general investment book go with Jay DeCima's Investing In Fixer Uppers, it's one of the best I've read with all practical information that's realistic. A lot of books have things that are great in theory, but very difficult to work out in real life.

When you're ready to really do it find a local agent whom works with investors and can help educate you on investing in your area. Every market has different resources for finding good deals and experience is worth a lot when you're investing in real estate and local market information can't be learned from a book. It may be difficult to find a good agent whom you like and is willing to work diligently on your behalf, but it's worth it. Knowing your market intimately is the key to making money investing, particularly if you're flipping houses.

What is the best website to buy used school books for cheap?

I need an english and history book. Please let me know the best websites to buy some used school books. For High school JR. Thanks

I find that amazon is surprisingly cheap when it comes to buying used textbooks. All you have to do is type in the information on the book and then choose the option t buy it used. When you buy it off their site used, you are directly buying it from the seller. A lot of people try to compete with prices so you find that this makes the books alot cheaper.

www.half.com

www.amazon.com

Amazon is pretty good they sell new and used books.

Try http://www.bigwords.com, this is where I sold and bought books.

Can any of you recommend some good strategies to extract the most important information from the texts without actually reading all the chapters word for word?

I generally outlined all my college material. I found writing it (rather than just highlighting) was a good learning process. Then I outlined my outline onto flash cards for studying. I also made graphs and charts...the visual picture came back to me during tests. You might also want to look into some speed reading tips to make reading faster overall.

I can't say much for college studying as I am still in high school, nevertheless it is always helpful to have a self-examination of what you need to study the most and check headlines for topics you feel need reinforcement. In my experience though, it is best to read and reflect. In other words, read a paragraph then absorb and restate to yourself what it means. a final effective manor would be to break the work with friends and have them split the reading then exchange the information in easy memorizable terms.

high lite all words meanings, dates, important amounts and names of important people. Most of the time the dates will give you the events and the highlighting people will tell you what they did and dates will tell you when an event happened. My strategy.

I normally go to the end or beginning of the chapter to where they have the main points and key terms listed. Then I go to the part in the chapter that this term is discussed and read its context. This gets you to study the most important stuff first. Then you can go back and skim the rest if you like.

Sudoku, what are the best books you reccommend for beginners to internediate?

I just learned how to do sudoku and can do the easy ones really fast now, I am beginning to work on the medium ones and sometimes get stuck but not always.

Does anyone have any tips?

Also, what are the best books for beginners to intermediate(or someone like me) to work on and get better and eventually work up to the hard and challening puzzles?

i buy the books that the first ones are easy and they work their way up to difficult. it took me a bit to teach myself how to do them but then it became like riding a bike. i taught my daughter how to do them, she is 7. she loves them. our local dollar store carries pretty big sudoku books

I actually got my book from Dollar Tree, it has all different levels of challenges, goign from easy to hard. It was low cost as well.

There are so many books out there, taking a bit of time to search out the one that is right for you is probably a good idea. One that labels the puzzles from Easy to hard may help you out a bit so you can test yourself with more difficult puzzles.

THEY HAVE SUDOKU FOR DUMMYS THATS HOW I LEARNED.

i just got into sudoku too. it's really fun. you can find a lot of puzzles at book stores and even the supermarket at checkout!

will shortzes, new york times

go to any book store and they will undoubtedly have a selection of sudoku puzzle books. just grab the biggest one you can find.

Sudoku is for morons--thats why its so popular because only idiots love it, try a better brain improver like crosswords, anagrams, jumble, scrabble

You can buy a Sudoku for Dummies book at a book store. I have this book and it has some pages of explaination in the front of it plus puzzles.

You should find this link interesting.

My brother has a hugh collection of rare books. What is the best way for him to sell them?

My brother is retired and has collected rare books for years. He has rare sets of books, etc. Is E-Bay the best way to go. He doesn't know much about the internet so needs some advice.

the first thing you need to do is see how much they are worth. then you could sell them on e-bay, but for how much they are worth. if not e-bay, you could always have a yard sale and sell it there. but if you do put them on e-bay, you should leave the date on the book and say how much its worth. but do not sell the book for under what it is worth, then other people will buy them and then they will sell them for more getting them more money. you said he doesn't know much about the Internet? here is what you do: 1 take a photo of the books ( you can sell them all together or apart) 2 go on www.e-bay.com and if you don't have a account make one. 3 go to sell or it should say something like that. 4 upload the photo. 5 then all you have to do is put down the price and like i said how much the book is worth and the date on the book. then you just wait till someone sees it. i hope this helps :-)

a regular auction with a place that specializes in rare books will be the best way to go - most people on ebay look for flea market bargains, not rare collectibles

he should have them appraised first to find out their worth. Then if listing on ebay give a good starting bid. Why sell something for little if it is worth a mint

Take it to a really good librarian let her check it out then find out then maybe she can pay u or something

What Is the average minimum amount of books sold and money earned to make it on the NY Best Seller List?

Wondering what is the average minimum amount of books needed to be sold to make the NY times best sellers list, and how much money would that book usually make?

From Wiki:

The list is created by the editors of the "News Surveys" department, and not by The New York Times Book Review department, where it is published.

The list is based on weekly sales reports obtained from selected samples of independent and chain bookstores, as well as wholesalers, throughout the United States. The sales figures are widely believed to represent books that have actually been sold at retail, rather than wholesale figures,[3] as the Times surveys a number of actual booksellers in an attempt to better reflect what is actually purchased by individual buyers. Some books are flagged with a dagger (†) indicating that a significant number of bulk orders had been received by retail bookstores.

The exact methodology used in creating the list is classified as a trade secret.[4] As of 1992, according to Edwin Diamond in his book Behind the Times, the survey encompasses over 3,000 bookstores as well as "representative wholesalers with more than 28,000 other retail outlets, including variety stores and supermarkets."[4]

The list is divided into fiction and non-fiction sections, with each containing ten to twenty titles. Expanded lists showing additional titles are available online through the Book Review website. In early 1984 the "Advice, How-to and Miscellaneous" list was created because advice best-sellers were crowding out the general non-fiction list.[5] In July 2000 a children's literature section was created; some publishers complained that the Harry Potter series wouldn't leave the top spots on the list and was not leaving enough room for their books.[6] Starting with the September 23 2007 issue, the paperback fiction list was divided into two lists, "Trade Fiction" and "Mass-Market Fiction", because "it gives more emphasis on the literary novels and short-story collections reviewed so often in our pages".[7]

What's the best way to send books through the mail in Canada?

I am going to be selling a book online and mailing it to people who buy it in all over Canada. I went to the post office and they told me that to mail this particular weight, it will cost $6 to Toronto and $12 to Vancouver!

With this in mind, what's the best way to charge for shipping?

Someone in the States told me they have a special "Media rate" that he uses for mailing books. Is there anything like that in Canada?

very simple : go to your local Canada post outlet . Near me there is one at the Shoppers Drugmart , and one in the IGA supermarket . The peolpe working there can answer all your questions.

What are the best books teaching music theory?

I've been playing the alto saxophone for a few years, and I'd like to learn more about reading and composing music in general. In short, I'd like to have a more in depth knowledge of music (scales, chord progressions, etc.). Keeping in mind that I have a very limited background in theory, what are the best books that I can learn from?

Try one of the "Idiots Guide" or "Music Theory for Dummies" books...no offence intended. I have a hard time with theory and think these really help with the basics.

At http://www.archive.org in their printed materials section, they have hundreds of books you can download for free to help you with theory, composition, orchestration, sight-reading, etc. Find the ones that work for you but hang on to the ones that don't because after a while they will start to make sense, too.

The best books I can tell you about are the ones from W. W. Norton. They have The Musician's Guide to Aural Skills and The Musician's Guide to Theory and Analysis. There is a work book as well as an anthology for the Theory and Analysis one and there are two Aural Skills books. Another, simple and easy to follow, is the Theory Essentials series from Thomson Schirmer.

Go to:

www.wwnorton.com

and

www.thomsonlearning.com (or www.wadsworth.com)

I can guarantee you that you can find these books on Amazon.

Hope that helps! And good luck.

What are the best books for personal finance?

I am in my early 20s and am looking to get a jumpstart on my financial future. Which do you think are the best books to have on that subject?

Young Broke & Fabulous by Suze Orman-without a doubt.

Robert Kiosaki (Rich Dad Poor Dad) is very interesting.

And, easy to read.

My husband wants to market his books and what is the best way to get the most publicity for it?

My husband wants to market his books what is the best way to go about it. He writes juevinille fiction/ fantasy. Its good, but we need a good way to market his books. Do you know of any good marketing stratagies?

First, remember that what your husband proposes to do is almost literally impossible. There are as many as 130,000 new titles brought to the market every year, and only a few are successful. About 7,000 new titles by new authors are presented to the market for each one that becomes a sales success.

NEVER, EVER under any circumstances spend any money on a book marketing project that you cannot afford to flush down the tubes.

Now that I have made you thoroughly angry, read through the resolved questions at length, as one other person suggested. "How do I publish/market my book" is one of the most discussed topics on the planet.

www.lulu.com actually works, though it is rare for anyone to make any real money that way. But it could happen. Also try looking up the National Association of Independent Publishers' Representatives. You might find someone there that can help you.

Good luck. Don't give up your day job.

Unless I knew about how he had the books published (self, small press, major publisher), I could only hazard a guess that he might try to find a publicity agency or other professional literary service. Also, there are many websites that he might pay to advertise on, depending on the genre. The best thing you can do before embarking on such a venture is to research the market, and see what's available.

Not too sure any of this will help? But...

Try listings below:

Looked up "Publishing Books"

And info was given....

Nevermind persiphone...she never gives real answers...just tells everyone to look in resolved assuming nobody new has something to say.

If i were you, I would take maybe 50 books or so and give them to kids at various schools (no more than 5 books per school) and ask them what they think of it. (make sure you give them to kids who you think will actually read it) If your hubby is a good writer, the kids will tell everyone about it. Just make sure his books are available at the bookstores and amazon.com so the kids can get it. Word of mouth is the most powerful form of advertising. As long as you didnt publish your book at one of those rip-off publishers like lulu.com it shouldnt cost more than a few hundred dollars to give away 50 books.

I remember reading a fantasy book in 8th grade. I told everyone about it and half the class went out and bought the book.

Anyway...thats just one idea. Might work, might not, but from what i heard harry potter almost didnt make it to press until some literary agents child started reading the manuscript and couldnt put it down...it took off from there.

Go to the Resolved Questions section of this forum and you will find hundreds of answers to the same question. Spend some time reading.

Then go out and buy him his own copy of Writers Market. C.

What is the best way to sell Medical Transcription books and software?

I have tons of books and software from my Medical Transcription course, most of them are brand new. I am trying to sell them and want to know the best way to get rid of them? I have listed them on eBay, but they are not selling well.

Continue to try Ebay. Also try craigslist, a yard sale, and a used book store. However, if you are going into the medical field, you might as well keep the medical dictionary.

I would just keep it all , you never know when you might need to look something up that you forgot.
